WWII Monument

On Veterans Day, 2023 SGCPS announced our partnership with Mary, Queen of Peace Parish to repair and restore the WWII plaque that was once located on the front of St. George Church. The plaque was created by renowned sculptor Frank Vittor in 1947. A plan was developed to place the plaque on a new monument to be constructed in the St. George section of St. John Vianney cemetery in Carrick. A dedicated parishioner from the Class of 66 volunteered to perform the extensive reconstruction, repairs and restoration of the plaque.

On Saturday, July 6, 2024, a dedication ceremony was held for the new St. George WWII Monument.

Tom Wilding, Class of 71, sang the National Anthem. Fr. Dan Valentine provided the invocation and benediction. American Legion 935 provided the rifle volley, playing of Taps and folding the flag. After the unveiling, the flag was presented to WWII Veteran, Merchant Marine, Howard Pfeifer.

Over 100 veterans, parishioners, alumni and Allentown neighbors attended the event.

Your many generous donations to the SGCPS Restoration Fund over the years has provided the funding for the reconstruction & restoration of the plaque and the construction of the monument.
